About

Hello!

My name is Jill, and I love video games. If you found me through my candles, then you probably could have guessed as much. They've been a big part of my life, and I love being able to incorporate them into a craft that I can share with others who love them as much as I do.

It started out around the age of 4 on my family's old Windows 3.1 computer with me getting far too invested in watching my dad play Rodent's Revenge, SkiFree, and Rattler Race. 25 years have passed since then, and video games have really shaped who I am as a person. They've taught me many things and helped me form some lasting friendships. I even met my boyfriend while playing Final Fantasy XIV, so it will forever have a soft spot in my heart. I also owe my career path to a really good friend I met on a Harvest Moon forum, of all places.

Like almost any other computer engineering (or computer science) major, my original desire in college was to go into game development. While being able to work on games still sounds awesome, I just don't think I could take the stress of the video game industry. Maybe one day I'll make something, but for now I'm content working full time as a software engineer doing database development at a local company here in Knoxville, Tennessee.

How did Twelveswood Fragrances come about?

In short, it was some combination of my entrepreneurial spirit and my boyfriend's love of candles.

Originally the idea was to make some just for ourselves to save money. But then I realized I could put a fun twist on them - video game scents. I wasn't even a candle person, but imagining what areas in some of my favorite games would smell like and the ability to turn them into something tangible was all it took for me to begin furiously researching the craft.

From that point, seemingly everywhere I looked I would see random people make comments about how much they liked candles. I realized that I could use this new hobby to bring joy to fellow gamers - something that felt especially needed since we were still deep in the pandemic (February 2021).

This could be my chance to make a difference.

  • "Twelveswood"

In Final Fantasy XIV, The Twelveswood is another name for The Black Shroud - a very forested, early game area (and probably my favorite).

  • The First Collection

Gridania, Ul'dah, and Limsa Lominsa were the original scents that marked the beginning of my business. Ironically, the cities that they are a namesake of marked the beginning of their game (Final Fantasy XIV)

  • The Very Beginning

These are some of the very first candles I ever poured, straight from my kitchen. There's nothing game related about them, but I'll admit, they look pretty and are still some of my favorite candles to this day.
